What is a premade?
The designers over here at The Book Brander get together and dream up the most beautiful designs we can imagine. We then sell those covers as “premades” that authors can buy to either inspire a new story, or use to brand an existing idea. Each premade design is only sold once.
How do I customize a premade?
All premades are designed so that you can change the title, series name, and other text to make it yours. We can match fonts to another series if you want it to fit in with your existing books, and we can match author fonts! While we are 100% behind you changing the title text, if our title inspires you, keep it!
If you want to make any other changes to a premade, you have to buy early buyout. Early-buyout changes can include one round of MINOR changes, such as swapping out an animal for a shifter story, or tweaking a character’s hair color or adding a small element to the background or design. (Note, these changes can not exceed more than three hours of design work and only one round is included. If you think you may want them, we recommend reaching out before purchasing to confirm that they would be within the scope.)
When is the next sale?
Our sales run over two days and with “early buy out” on the first day, and prices dropping to the regular sale prices on the second. They are first come first served, and covers will go live in batches based on genre.
We usually do two big sales a year. Typically we do one in late spring and one mid-fall, but that varies. You can join our group on Facebook (The Book Brander boutique) or subscribe to our newsletter to get updates on upcoming sales.
How does the early buyout process work?
The first day of the sale is “early buy out day”. On this day ALL the covers will be offered at a higher price-point and be listed as “Premium Early Buy Out.”
Not only will this early buy out price get you a better chance of getting the cover it also comes with other perks:
1.) First pick of continuation slots.
2.) One round of MINOR changes, such as swapping out an animal for a shifter story, or tweaking a character’s hair color or adding a small element to the background or design. (Note, these changes can not exceed more than three hours of design work and only one round is included. If you think you may want them, we recommend reaching out before purchasing to confirm that they would be within the scope.)
3.) Our eternal love and devotion.
Then! All covers not sold at early buy out will go live on the site on 24 hours later at our regular pricing.
What time will genre batches go live?
The batches go live in batches each 15 minutes over the hour the sale is live. The batches are:
(batch one) Sweet romance / Women’s fiction / Historical
(batch two)– Contemporary
(batch three) — Paranormal / Sci-fi Romance
(batch four)– Miscellaneous (YA / Fantasy / Thriller / Dystopian/ Cozy)
The exact time depends on the specific sale time, but once a cover is uploaded it will have a countdown timer to the time it goes live. For each sale, we announce the specific covers in each batch release time on our Facebook group (The Book Brander Boutique) and in our email list !
What happens once I’ve purchased my premades?
DURING A SALE: You should get a receipt confirming your purchase during the sale. That email includes information about how to reach out for a fulfillment form when you are ready with final title and author name information.
(Please note that changing titles after we have officially fulfilled it comes with a retitle fee, so we recommend being sure of your titles, or prepared for the fee!) There is no rush to fulfill your premades, once you have purchased them they’re yours and we’ll hold them for you until you are ready.
Once you have emailed that you are ready to fulfill your premades, we’ll send you a form where you can note minor changes (if you purchased at early buyout) and your name, series name, and title.

When will I receive my premades?
Once we have your premade form it usually takes us a week to turn it around.
However, immediately after the sale it usually takes us ten to fourteen days to fulfill all the premades, simply due to volume. That means we’ll be sending out premades every day, but can’t guarantee anyone a specific day in that window!
Can I do continuations of premades?
Absolutely! Continuations of premades are often done by our staff designers, who are incredibly talented and work to match the style of the original cover or set, no matter who the original designer was. What about extras?
Yes, we have you covered! Our standard list of extras and prices are below. Once we have the details (ie, a paperback template) normally takes us a week to turn around an extra and send it back to you. If you want something that’s not on this list, feel free to reach out and ask if it’s something we can do! We love learning about new trends and publishing spaces from our clients, and we’re always excited to try something new for you.

- Paperbacks — $50 (*if printing at multiple distributors, KDP and IngramSpark, each wrap template after the first one is $30 if we do all the wraps at the same time)
- PSD Files — $150 per cover, rasterized with editable text
I didn’t get the covers I wanted! How do I order custom covers?
We’re sorry you didn’t get the set you had your eye on! Shoot us an email us at thebookbrander (at) gmail.com with some information about the style of cover you’re looking for and we’ll do our best to take care of you. If you want to see more of our designer’s custom work you can look at the customs tab, which takes you to our customs site, thebookbrander.com Please note, these covers will be at our custom prices–but that also means you can make them exactly what you’re looking for =)
When will I get my customs?
Once you’ve booked in a custom slot with us, you have a booking date. That is the day we start your project. If we have all the cover information on that day, it takes 10-14 days for us to put together a concept and send it to you. From that point, the number of changes, and the intensity of the changes, will decide the pace of the project. For extras and fulfillment of premades, expect a turn around of one week. However, if you’re in rush, let us know, and we can likely accommodate you for a small extra fee.
What are your payment/refund/cancellation policies?
Premades purchases are first come, first serve. If you are trying to purchase a premade not during a sale event, and cannot get the site to work, please shoot us an email at thebookbrander (at) gmail.com and we can set you up an invoice. During a sale event we will do our best to assist but cannot necessarily troubleshoot in real time for individuals.
If you have purchased a premade and no longer want it, please let us know. We do not provide refunds for premades but we do allow private resale if we are notified you’re doing that.
Cancellations only apply to customs, and customs have their own payment system. In order to reserve your custom spot, I require a non-refundable 10% down payment. Upon the start of the project the next 50% is due, and the rest of the payment is due upon completion of the project. If you decide not to work with me for whatever reason before I begin work, I will refund anything paid over the deposit. Once work is begun no refunds will be given, unless I decide to cancel the project.
